Today is a historic day. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart to each and every one of you who voted yes. You voted for me, your sisters, mothers, daughters, girlfriends, wives, and friends, past, present and future. I’m so grateful to you all that I won’t feel like a stranger in my own country when it comes to my reproductive rights.

Today’s result marks the closing of a dark chapter of our history in our treatment of women, pregnancy and babies which has been shrouded in fear, isolation, shame and secrecy.

Today, we say Yes to our women, we trust you, we will try to understand and we support you. You are equal and we will treat you as such.

Today we are no longer the backward country who will keep our heads down and silent when we need to stand up and shout out.

Today, we lead the way, in a time where emotional canvassing is proving to work and disrupting other nations.

Today, three years later almost to the day, the Irish people have once again stood out, dug deep and voted for what is right, for the human rights of its people. YES! #repealed
